Group Rua:grouping numbers

Group Tai :grouping our numbers - the base to multiplication

Today we have been grouping patterns according to number is each group.  We have had robust conversations is it 3 groups of 6 or 6 groups of 3.

Our aim is for the students to see reversibility and seeing numbers in different ways.  The total always is the same, that is something we are agreeing on.

Special interest: how would you work out 27 x 5 in your head?

Special interest:

Today we are building on from our first session, we are finding a variety of strategies to solve multiplication problems in our heads.

Our thinking as a group is so much deeper and clearer when working together.

We are learning to make visuals and/or models to explain our thinking.

Re: Ordering and sorting our favourite numbers:

Group Tai  made their favourite number posters, then we had a go at grouping and talking about them.  Some fantastic number sense came out of these discussions.
