What can you make with 100 blocks?
Today group Rua found 100 blocks to create a variety of shapes.
They could see the blocks were put into groups of 10 (5 of each colour) and that 10 groups of 10 made 100 or 10x10= 100
When the other students saw Abigail and Cairo's shape they thought only 50 or 20 blocks were used.

When a student loves addition and not multiplication:
Taking the time and showing how the different operations in maths relate.
Here you can see adding groups of 2s or repeated addition is the basis of multiplication. With time to discuss, put mathematics into their world and use materials we can break down the barriers and get ourselves out of the learning pit.
I love hearing students honest feedback
Kind Regards,
Kim

Working with the staff to make Maths full of learning.
This afternoon we talked about how we can make Maths full of Rich Tasks.
One idea was:
Here's the answer, what could the question be?
You can try this at home:
Instead of asking what is 4 + 2 = ?
Ask how many ways can we make 6?
Can you think of all the possibilities?? Please record them in the comments section:
Here's the answer, what could the question be?
